South Atlantic Bible College was founded in 1994 by a group of conservative Bible believing pastors, who believed that distance education and evening classes were a great need for men called into ministry who were unable to leave their current jobs or families to pursue traditional training. From the beginning the seminary has also catered to those who have experience in ministry, but have not had the opportunity for education leading to degrees. We offer degrees in the areas of Divinity, Ministry, Christian Education, Theology, and Biblical Studies.
Our History
In 1994 Dr. Todd Morris and Dr. Jerry Haas were having lunch and discussing the vast number of pastors and other ministers who lacked formal training and education. Most of these men desired further training, but because of family and financial commitments were unable to "pick-up" and go back to school. They also discussed the fact that their own college and seminary training had, while giving them Biblical knowledege, not prepared them for ministry from a practical standpoint. Dr. Haas made mention of the fact that a man with, "ten years experience had far more knowledge and ability than a fresh seminary graduate with a Masters degree." The two men agreed to pray about what, if anything, they could do to minister to those ministers who found themselves in these situations.
The Solution
Dr. Haas, who had served on the faculty of Mid-Atlantic Seminary in Rock Hill, SC prior to its closing, called Dr. Morris a few weeks later and said, "lets start a school, one that will offer evening classes at each of our churches, and offer distance work for those who cannot come to the campus. Lets also give credit for Life Experience, so men who have proven knowledge and experience are given advanced standing." Thus South Atlantic Bible College was born.
